Possibly worlds first public sector deal between two nations in power sector to produce prower equipments.

China is looking as a big oppurtunity in India to cater public sector. A Chinese largest High Voltage Transformer producing company, Tebian Electric Apparatus Stock Co. Ltd. (TBEA) is in talk with India's Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) to jointly manufacture Power Equipments in India. The talks are in its initial stages. BHEL has capacity of producing power equipment of up to 400 kv where as TBEA manufacture electric power transformers of up to 1000 kv.

Videocon to venture into hospitality sector

Videocon Group is planning to set up a hotel at its upcoming Rs 900 crore IT Park at Salt Lake in West Bengal, to enter in to hospitality business. West Bengal Government has permitted the group to use 20 per cent of its IT space at Salt Lake for commercial purpose. The proposed hotel is expected to cater to the IT and ITES sector only.
The company's IT Park is likely to be developed over 3.8 million sq ft in two phases. In Phase I, 1 million sq ft of IT space is being established with completion slated for December 2010. Shapoorji Pallonji & Company and Ahluwalia Contracts are involved in the construction of the IT Park.

UniverCell to open 700 stores across the country

UniverCell, a Chennai based mobile retail chain, proposes to open 700 stores across the country in next two years time. Each outlet is likely to entail an investment of Rs 28 lakh with total envisaged investment of Rs 196 crore. As of now, The company has 300 stores in four southern states and targeting to touch 400 stores by March 2010 through the franchisee mode.

State Bank of India to setup three wind power projects

State Bank of India (SBI) is likely to set up wind power projects with a combined capacity of 15.5 MW
SBI plans to set up 3 wind power projects in Maharashtra 9 MW, Tamil Nadu 5 MW and Gujarat 1.5 MW for its captive consumption at various SBI offices and branches in these three states. The bank is looking at the option of using non-conventional energy resources, including solar and bio mass.
The bank has invited bids for establishing captive wind power projects on turnkey basis, including land, infrastructure and permissions. The operations and maintenance is to be handled by the project contractors.

Madras Cements shelves plan to enter sugar business

Madras Cements, a Ramco Group company earlier planned to set up a greenfield sugar plant in Thirukovilur, along with a cogeneration power and an alcohol plant, entailing a total investment of Rs 450 crore has decided to scrap its plans to enter the sugar business due to the constraints it faced such as declining cane area under cultivation and increasing competition from sugar mills in Tamil Nadu.

Usha Martin to set up a chain of 200 schools

Usha Martin Education & Solutions (UMESL), earlier known as Usha Martin Infotech company has inked a deal with Pearson Education to set up a chain of 200 K-12 (kindergarten to 12th standard) high quality English medium schools across the country over a period of next five years.
Each of these schools is likely to entail an investment of Rs 6-Rs 7.5 crore and spread over a minimum space of around 30,000 sq ft. Initially, UMESL-Pearson is expected to kick off 15 schools in West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand in the next academic session on rented spaces.

Gitanjali plans 40 Maya stores

Gitanjali Lifestyle proposes to open 40 multi-format lifestyle brand 'Maya' stores over the next three years at an investment of Rs 240 crore. The company plans to increase its footprint by an additional 1.25-1.5 million sq ft by 2011.Gitanjali has acquired 76 per cent stake in Salasar Retail, a mid-sized departmental stores chain across India and is expected to brand the existing 10 Salasar stores as 'Maya'.

Mahindra & Mahindra enters Aerospace Business

The Mahindra Group plans to enter the aerospace segment by manufactruing two-to-twenty-seater aircraft. Mahindra Aerospace Pvt. Ltd. (MAPL), belonging to the group, plans to invets Rs. 1750 million in the next few years to manufacture 475 aircrafts. The group has also accquired two Australia based Aero staff Australia and Gippsland Aeronautics companies.
The plant is to be set up in Bangalore to complement these acquisition and provide dual shoring and benefits to customers.
